Better Half
Love isn’t for the faint of heart and when love is found in life it is sometimes hard to fight, even if it will be your downfall. This piece entitled, Better Half, is an arm and hand. In the hand lies a heart, a heart of emotional significance rather than the organ. When in love, your heart doesn’t rely on you to keep it safe, but you entrust it in the one you love, where it might not always be safe.
The piece was the first that I used skin tones and had numerous variations of the color that I used. It didn’t always work out because of how the paint looks on fired clay, which usually comes out darker. This piece was an experiment for me because of the angle that the arm is in, which was at the start, a struggle against gravity. Depending on the space where it is located, this piece shows value through the form of the hand and arm.
