The Verdict
The verdict was in… she was guilty.
Her heart immediately dropped to the bottom of her chest. She felt like the weight of the world was on her shoulders. Just what I expected.
She sat still, not daring to move a muscle. I have to make this look real, she thought as she forced a single tear to fall from her glossy eyes. It slowly made its way down her pale cheek, finally dropping onto the wooden table in front of her. She watched in utter silence while the jury stared at her.
“I’m sorry,” she said to her crying mother next to her. As the guards lifted her away, she mouthed I love you to her ten-year-old brother. She didn’t fight back. She knew her decision would have consequences. Not a single emotion peaked through her stone cold stare, as she was fully aware of what she had done.
Being carried away, behind the big metal doors, she looked back. She knew it would be the last time she’d see her family.
A smirk formed upon her face.
