August 2022 fiction contest: perspective
Mom was the most elegant woman in the world. She wore a slick bun and never let her hair down.
But Suzanne was the most beautiful woman in the world. I remember the day that dad invited her home. She had flowing blonde hair.
Since then, mom started wearing her hair down. She didn’t become beautiful like Suzanne, but she was still the most elegant.
Sometimes, mom would cry at night and I wondered if she wanted to be the most beautiful woman. So, I prayed every night that Suzanne would never come back.
She really stopped coming.
Mom still cried.
