The Soccer Game
It was a magnificent, luminous day on the eastern beaches of Costa Rica. Juan was in one of his beautiful beach houses watching recorded soccer games on the 100-inch plasma television in his living room with a wonderful view of the ocean. As he was watching a halftime commercial, he got an idea to call up Franklin, spend some bonding time with him and try to become closer friends with him. And he said to himself, “While he’s here, let’s see if he can tell if these games are recorded. That kid is so dumb, he might think it’s live.” Juan dialed up Franklin and told him, “Hey, Franky boy, how is everything? I just wanted to know if you were interested in riding over to my house to watch a soccer game on my new TV?” Frank replied, “It’s Frank, and yeah, everything is straight, but how my life is going is none of your business, so don’t even ask. Pero, a soccer game sounds nice, so I’ll be there in a few. Dale loco!”
An hour later Franklin arrived in an white car followed by a black car that was full of his friends. Juan asked, “Who they is?” Franklin replied, “They my boys. They here just to wait for me outside and make sure you don’t try to do anything funny on me pri.” “All right Franklin, as long as they don’t rob me you good. Come inside, the game is about to start.” Franklin asked “Who’s playing?” Juan replied, “Mexico vs Honduras.” Franklin got excited and said, “Oh, dang, I didn’t know that Honduras was playing today. I bet they’ll whip Mexico,” bragged Franklin. “Oh Franklin, I bet they won’t even score on them. I bet anything they lose by one to zero.” “How much do you want to bet?” Franklin asked; “If I win, you finna help me be successful in this business running the streets of Central America,” said Juan; and Franklin said, “Ight. I see you wanna be like me, but if I win, you must return that truck that was stolen from my boys!” Juan laughed, pretended not to know what Franklin was talking about, and agreed to bet.
It was halftime when Franklin was getting bored watching the commercials, so he picked up the control of the TV and he tried to change the channels. But the channels wouldn’t change. He thought to himself, “Maybe they need batteries. Wait, no, because the little red light turns on.” So he pressed a pause button, and Franklin saw the game pause and then he fast forwarded it and then Franklin screamed with all his strength, “YEOO! What the heck!? This game isn’t even live, it’s a booty recorded game. You thought I was stupid? Do I look like cupid?” Juan turned around and dropped a soda bottle he had brought from the kitchen, “NO, NO, NO! Chill, Franklin. Calm down, cousin, let me explain.” “Nah, don’t tell me to chill, and I ain’t your cuz.” Franklin’s boys came running in. They stopped Franklin just when Franklin was about to knock the lights out of Juan. They told Franklin it wasn’t worth it. So, Juan said, “Yo, Franklin, my bad bro, I was just kidding. I wanted to see it you would notice. I wasn’t serious.” Franklin just looked Juan straight in the face and said nothing. He left Juan’s crib with his boys. Juan went to his bedroom and thought to himself, ”Dam, what have I done? I was supposed to make Franklin my buddy, not an enemy. I bet this boy is hella mad at me now. Damm I’m so stupid. How could I make it up to him?” Now Juan should have just learned his lesson: that trying to outsmart Franklin or playing tricks on him wasn’t funny at all and Frank wasn’t someone he wanted to mess with. But when will Juan ever learn?
