“Darling I need to tell you something, I’d like to sign up for the military, I know what you’re thinking but I’ll be careful and ill always find my way home”
With tears in her eyes gabby repels
“But Joe, you can’t do this to me; with the baby on the way I will not become a single mother...”
“Gabby doesn’t worry about that you won’t be its only 8 years and I’ll be home every Christmas and call you every day and you can send pictures of our beautiful baby.”
“Joe this isn’t fair, what will I do with our child? How will I pay for the house, if you leave us, you’ll kill us?”
“I’ll send money for the house, I’ll talk to our child when I come home and will play catch and go fishing and go do everything a man and his son are supposed to do.” “Ok Joe, but you better call every night, I better see you every Christmas and we will discuss the 8 years thing”
Joe leaves to the air force and serves in the war, 6 years later gabby gets a knock on the door. A man in his professional suet knocked. Its Joe’s superior and best friend. Gabby knows him as brad. She answers the door with a welcoming smile.
“Hey brad it’s good to see you, how’s Emma?”
“She’s fine, but gabby we need to talk”
“Oh don’t worry brad we’ll have plenty of time to catch up over Christmas dinner when Joe gets him.”
“Gabby, Joe isn’t coming home… I’m so sorry”
“Well could he just not get it off or something?”
“No gabs. Joe died in a crash.”
Gabby now drownding in her own tears starts to scream and her son Izic comes running out.
“Mommy what’s wrong” the distort 5 year old comfortingly exclaims
“Go to the kitchen Isaac”
Isaac holds his head down and starts heading to the kitchen. Later at the funeral brad takes Isaac home to take some of the stress off of gabby. She is the last one with her now diseased husband.
“I told you this would happen god dam it. What the hell were you thinking? Leaving Isaac and me. You only had two years left. What will Isaac do? Will he just grow up without a father entirely?”
Still his body lays there lifeless.
“Get up u a**hole. Talk to me, wake up!! I’m not doing this alone, open your eyes.”
Gabby drops to her knees and begins to cry. A few moments pass by and it starts to rain. Pouring agree a min. a car pulls up and a black umbrella appears. Its brad.
“Gabby you need to get up Isaac needs you. I know Joe’s death was hard on you but it’s time to go.
The now stronger widow caries her rolled flag home with her son holding the other hand and he says:
“Do you think daddy will miss me?”
