softball
Each step kicking up dirt behind her, she walks up to the plate. She swallows through the lump in her throat, feeling nervous as can be. The crowd behind her cheers her name as she continues to walk up to the batter’s box. Her cheering grandfather say’s “Come on Kate! Lets go! Bring ‘em in, kid.”
Finally, she reaches the batter’s box, placing one foot in the box while cautiously looking at her third base coach to see what kind of sign she will receive. Coach gives her two hand claps and says, “ Let’s go, gotta get these runs in.”
Nervously, she steps her other foot in the box, right arm going up to ensure she gets time from the umpire. She confidently looks at the pitcher with no fear in her eyes.
The bases are loaded with two outs and down by one run. Suddenly the world becomes silent. It’s her and the pitcher, just the two in a battle of who is going to win the game for their teammates. Turns out, she won’t let the pitcher win. She hit’s a double and wins the game for her team.
