My soft tabby pelt shuddered feebly in the face of the desk fan. The wind blew into my ears and derived a miniscule hiss from me. Shaking out my fur, I hopped down out of reach from the metal menace. Arching my back, I stretched out in front of the glass doors that draped warm sunlight over me. I bathed in the sun for a few moments before deciding I was in dire need of food. The empty bowl stared me down from across the room. I sauntered over to it before letting out a gentle meow, asking the humans for a refill. A pair of strong hands wrapped around me and coddled me. Another defeated meow escaped me. Suddenly the hands fell out from under me and I had only mere moments to spin in the air and land safely on my paws. I failed. I hit my side on the slick, tile floor and whimpered softly. The tiny, human girl had cut my whiskers and made it more difficult for me to maintain my balance. Maybe if I tried to get love. I rubbed against the humans leg and was shoved away.
I meowed again and pushed the bowl across the floor. Mistake. It released a loud squeak and caused the human to flinch. The hands wrapped around me in a much more violent manner and carried me across the house towards the other room with tile. The hands tossed me forward and I slid across the ground before making a dart for the door. SLAM! The door closed and I barely had time to stop before running into it. I mewed softly, desperately. What had I done wrong? I pawed at the door but unfortunately, my claws were removed roughly months ago. A broken whimper fell from me and I decided to curl up and sleep to pass the time. It wasn’t even ten minutes later when the door was flung open and a hand grabbed the scruff of my neck. I stiffened, unable to move before moving all the way back to the kitchen where I was thrown violently to the floor. I meowed loudly in pain as the human shouted angry words at me. A toe of a boot slammed into my ribs and I slid back across the floor. Why? I tried to run but the boot stomped down on my tail, holding me in place. What did I do wrong? The hands grabbed me and tossed me across the room before the human had had enough “fun”. I just wanted love. . .
