Fractured Fairy Tale
As a child Ursula was never the prettiest of her friends, she lived in an underwater land that was full of beautiful mermaids, but sadly she was stuck inside the body of a hideous, overweight, octopus. As a little octopus child she would alway try to fit in with the mermaid children, this was a little difficult considering she has eight legs. She could not do most of the things her friends could because of her body type. There was one thing that she knew her body could not hold her back from and that was singing. Although she did not have the greatest voice she knew she would make it someday. All throughout her teenage and adult years she hid herself away in a cave to work on her vocals. Being alone in a cave led to a lot of free time, she made friends with some eels and even picked up some potions and spells over the years.
Years past and Ursulas voice never improved, She could not sing beautifully no matter how hard she tried. She woke up one day and realized just how old she had become. “I have spent all of my life in this cave trying to fix my vocal yet i have had no results!” she complained to her eel friends. She was about to give up on her dreams of becoming a singer when all of a sudden she heard a song. It was a marvelous, beautiful sound. It was the sound that Ursula had always wanted, the sound of a beautiful voice. She immediately became jealous. She needed to have this glorious voice. She left her cave to see who the owner of this voice was. When she walked outside she saw a beautiful mermaid with bright red hair, this girl was a teenager and looked like she was very distressed. Ursula went up to the girl to ask what was wrong. She told Ursula her name which was Ariel. “Well Ariel, you have no reason to be so sad when you have such a lovely voice.” Ursula told her. Ariel then went on a rant about her father and how desperately she needed some legs. Ursula was shocked that this beautiful girl who had everything, would want something as simple as legs. “I have eight legs, and i would gladly give them to you.” Ursula suggested. “No I need human legs.” Ariel corrected her. This gave Ursula an idea, she knew Ariel was just being rebellious and she took advantage of this. “I have many spells and potions in my cave that could get you those legs you desperately want, all you have to do is come in.” Ariel was thrilled with this offer and Ursula knew there was no way she could say no. “There is one tiny thing” Ursula added. “I’m going to need some sort of payment.” This statement did not affect Ariel. “I am basically a princess i can give you as much money as you want.” Ursula laughed. “You see it’s not money I want, what i want is that beautiful voice you have.” Ariel looked a little confused but agreed anyway. Ursula then made a potion which gave Ariel her legs and Ursula the voice she had always wanted.
You see Ursula did not do anything wrong, she was not the villain as most people are told. Yes, she did steal a girls voice and then later tried to steal her Prince, but this was only because she had never had a beautiful voice or a boys attention. Her jealousy and her being self conscious led her do these things, the rebellious mermaid was just stupid enough to agree to them.
