In the light of the street lamps, a little egg lay on a leaf.
One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and pop! Out of the egg came a tiny and very, very hungry caterpillar.
He started to look for some food. All he had to do was crawl  down the street and with ten dollars in his pocket, he could have all of the food he wanted. Fast food restaurants crowd the busy street On Monday he went to McDonalds. The very hungry caterpillar ate a Big Mac. And a large fry. And a McChicken. But he was still hungry.
On Tuesday, he walked down the street and saw a Taco Bell. He ate two Taco Supremes. And two Nacho Grandes. And a large Mountain Dew. But he was still hungry.
On Wednesday he walked past the McDonald's and the Taco Bell and found himself a Burger King. He at three orders of Chicken Fries. And three Whoppers. And onion rings, but he was still hungry.
On Thursday, he crossed the street and found himself at an Arby’s where he ate through four Roast Beef Sandwiches, and mozzarella sticks and a large milkshake, but he was still hungry. On Friday, he went down the same street to a Dairy Queen. He ate five ice cream cones, but he was still hungry.
On Saturday he ate through an entire bucket of KFC chicken and that night he had stomach-ache!
The next day was Sunday again. The caterpillar ate another Big Mac and after that he was still hungry. And now he wasn’t a little caterpillar any more. He was a big, fat caterpillar.

The author's comments:

This piece is a twist on the classic childrens book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". It touches on the problems that fast food restaurants are causing in America and spreads awareness to obesity. It directs children (seeing that it is a children's book) primarily because children are the root of the cause and who are being affected greatest by it.
