I Am a Mom
When she woke up in the middle of the night,
I picked her up, swaying her back and forth.
When she hid from the monster in the closet,
I showed her that there was nothing there.
When she was first picked on by a boy,
I encouraged her to show kindness to him.
When she won the spelling bee,
I hugged her and told her how proud I am of her.
When she was first asked out,
I told her to follow her heart.
When her boyfriend took her to prom,
I asked her to be safe and have fun.
When she left for college,
I helped decorated her room, holding onto her never wanting to let go.
When he asked me if he could marry her,
I said yes.
When she tried on her wedding dress,
I cried and told her what beautiful, kind women she had become
When I talked about what a great person she has become at the wedding,
She hugged me and whispered, “That’s because I am just like you.”
