Breaking Walls
He wakes up to the sound of a loud alarming sound. “Ugh…” being annoyed by the repetitive sound, he loudly groans and harshly slams the source of the irritating sound. Being grumpy and cold as always, he rises from his deep slumber, not ready one bit to take on the day. The young 19 year old man, Minsoo Lee, is off to another day to hell, also known as college.
Don't get him wrong, its not that he does not like school, he has always liked learning and is known for making excellent grades, but he just despises a lot of people. Everyday, his tall, muscular stature, and handsome features, such as his sharp jawline and his dark brown, narrow dreamy eyes, catches the women's attention making them all swoon over him, but it did nothing but annoy him.
Sadly for the love-struck women, Minsoo could care less about having any love interest. Even though he has an intimidating look and a cold personality, the women only find him as a cool, dreamy, bad boy that makes all swoon over him even more, but makes him even more annoyed. Now with the guys at his school, they all think he's this cool mysterious guy that they need to be friends with, but Minsoo easily denies as he prefers to be alone. You would think that everyone finds him cool, intimidating and quite the great looker, but not everyone thinks that.
Jin Park, also a handsome 19 year old man, who attends the same school as Minsoo. Jin sees Minsoo pretty much everyday at school, but he has never approached him. He is actually quite the observer. He sees how Minsoo treats everyone so coldly and he doesn’t like it one bit. “Why must he be praised for being a jerk to everyone” Jin continuously thinks to himself. He despises about how much attention Minsoo gets, Jin himself feels that he deserves that attention more than Minsoo since he is athletic, sings, dances and makes good grades as well.
Jin continues to keep his distance away from Minsoo, well he does up until a beautiful girl comes into the picture. Jieun Kim, a small, petite, cute, beautiful, 19 year old women. She is known to be quiet and awkward, but is still a bit confident and stands up for what she believes in. Jieun has also seen Minsoo around school, but unlike the other girls, she not interested in him, instead she finds him too intimidating which scares her a bit, which is the reaction Minsoo wanted from everyone actually.
Since Jieun is a bit scared of Minsoo, she doesn’t pursue him even though he is very attractive. Minsoo notices her distance from him and is pleased by her actions but is still finds her a bit weird since she’s not like the other girls. Jin soon takes notice into the situation and is instantly jealous since he is interested Jieun, but she isn't interested in him in the slightest bit because of his selfish actions. She will never forget the first time she met him.
Jieun was standing alone at the bus stop when she suddenly felt as if something was standing behind her. “Hello miss Jieun” Jin politely says with a smile on his face after startling her. “Oh did I scare you?” he says with a small smirk plastered on his face following by Jieun standing there unresponsive confused by how he knows her name. Jin quickly catches on and introduces himself “Oh I’m sorry, my name is Jin Park, I know you because I've seen you around and a friend of mine, who is a classmate of yours, told me who your name.” Jieun, who is now a bit more comfortable, responds with a reassuring smile and nod followed by saying “Nice to meet you.” Unfortunately her being reassuring was a mistake because not too long after he gets closer. “So why is a pretty girl like you standing here all alone?” She steps back, he steps closer. “You seem a bit tense, am I scaring you?” he says in a low tone with a smirk on his face once again, sending shivers down her spine. She is taking by surprise by his sudden actions and remains quite and begins to look around to see if anyone was around which is when she notices Minsoo, and actually notices her also and makes eye contact. Even though Jieun was terrified of Minsoo, she felt that this was probably to get away from Jin decides to tell him, “Oh look, there’s Minsoo, which reminds me that I need to ask him a question about a class we have together.” After saying that she quickly paces away from Jin to Minsoo's direction leaving Jin speechless.
Ever since that day, Jieun refuses to be alone with Jin, and Jin believes something is up with Jieun and Minsoo. Jin already doesn’t like Minsoo as it is, and to know that he is possibly taking a beautiful girl away from him angers him even more.
Jin slowly and calmly approached Minsoo. “Ah… hello Minsoo” Jin casually says. Minsoo stands there with a blank but still cool expression, not responding to Jin. “Ah too cool to speak I see” Jin responds with a bit of an attitude. “What is it that you want?” Minsoo finally responds but with a bit of an attitude. “What? I can’t have a normal conversation?’ Jin says with a smirk. Minsoo heavily sighs and tries to walk. Jin stops him by saying “Running away huh? Not surprised since you run away and ignore all these girls, well except Jieun.” Minsoo heavily sighs again, but this time sounding a bit angry, “Listen, I don’t have time for your grade school love drama, do you really think I want to waste my time talking to all these little girls.” After saying that, Minsoo continues to walk away, leaving Jin quiet and a bit annoyed. Minsoo finally gets outside to see Jieun waiting to cross the street.
Jieun, still waiting to cross the street, begins to look around and notices Minsoo coming her way. Once she saw him coming, she instantly became flustered and wanted to cross the street as quickly as possible. She turned around once again to see him getting closer and closer, then turned back to see if it was safe to cross, and it was, at least that’s what she thought. If she would have looked more clearly, she would have seen a bus coming in her direction at full speed. Once she noticed the bus, she quickly became in fear and her life flashed before her eyes, she closed her eyes ready to take the hit until she felt someone tackle her out of the way of the bus onto the ground. After hearing the sound of the passing bus, she opens her eyes to see Minsoo on top of her. Still trying to process what just happened, she quickly comes to her senses to realized, Minsoo Lee just saved her life.
Still laying there in shock, she sees Minsoo quickly get up off her and puts his hand out towards her. Jieun, who is still laying on the ground in pure shock, she realizes that he is trying to help her up so she reaches up to grab his hand so he can help her up. Once she got up and finished adjusting her clothing, looks up to notice Minsoo quietly walking away. Her first thought was that he was a bit rude since he did not even ask to see if she was alright or not. Being a bit annoyed, something inside snapped giving her the confidence to walk quickly up to him.
“Hey!” Jieun loudly and a bit harsh says to Minsoo. Minsoo suddenly stops and is a bit shocked about the sudden outburst and slowly turns around. “Why must you be so rude and distant to everyone? You didn’t even bother to ask I was okay or not.” Minsoo stands there still shocked and caught off guard by her sudden actions since he’s always seen her as a quite awkward girl, but he shocked expression turns into an intimidating look along with a smirk. “Are you okay?” he slyly says when stepping closer to Jieun which makes her become even more annoyed. “Can you not be a jerk for once, why are you so cold to everyone?” she asks, only to earn a quick response of “Why do you care?” from him.
She was taken back for a second, asking herself “Why do I care so much?” it’s not like I know him or anything. But she quickly finds a reason and says “Because I feel that you use that cold personality of yours as a cover up, you can’t be like this to everyone, like your parents or family.” Minsoo is once again by shocked by her response, but he heavily sighs, not being annoyed, but more of a sigh of defeat, “I’m only going to talk about this because I hope it will make you shut up, not because you’re right or anything.” Jieun becomes a bit excited because she had broken down that wall he’s been hiding behind and is finally opening up, but she holds in her excite so he won’t notice and change his mind.
That evening they begin walking down the street together, where Minsoo is finally opening up that he has never really done before. “Growing up I’ve always been a cold person who prefers to be alone, I don’t have any siblings I can do to, and I didn’t have many friends in school” he explains.
“Why didn’t you have friends in school?” Jieun asks. “I did, but some only used me for good grades and because I was good at sports and other things, so I just had trust issues and stopped talking to some people.”
“Some people? So you must have some friends you still talk to or like?” “Eh, I guess you can say that if two guys who never leave you alone and keeps talking to you and praising you constantly” he kindly jokes.
“Who are they, do you not enjoy their company.” “Their names Jackson and Mark they live not too far from me, and it’s not that I don’t like them nor enjoy their company, they just annoy me a lot, but it’s the good kind of “they annoy me’’ because they always end up making me laugh and putting a smile on my face.”
Jieun smiles because of his response. “I knew you weren’t just this cold, serious, tough guy.” Minsoo looks at her as if he was offended “Don’t say that.” “Why?” she asks while giggling to herself. “Just don’t, but I will admit that I’m serious because my dad raised me to help and take care of my mother and be the man of the house since he worked and was gone a lot.”
“You are so in denial about being caring to other people” she says and Minsoo just stands there quietly in response. “You should stop being such a cold person, based from what you told me from this conversation, I can tell that you're a really nice guy.” Minsoo admits to his faults and that he should stop being such a cold person by saying “You’re right, I won’t deny it.” she is taken back by his response but is satisfied that he realizes that she is right.
The two continue walking until they get to a coffee shop and decides to go get some coffee. Minsoo offers to pay continuing to leave Jieun in disbelief by his actions. They leave afterwards where Minsoo offers to walk Jieun home which she kindly accepts his offer.
Once they get to her home he suddenly says “Thank you.” Jieun looks at him in shock “Why are you saying thank you to me all of a sudden?” He smiles “For actually having the guts to talk to me even though I obviously scare you a bit and making me open up, no one has ever done that to me before, you’re different than most people I’ve met.” She smiles “And thank you for breaking down that wall so I could have the opportunity to talk to you.”
