Why Didn’t I Look Earlier

I wake with the sun shining on my face. But with no sock. Where did it go? Looking under the covers, I see the worn out, grey toe pinched between the bed and covers. I crawl for it. When I grab the sock, I see another, then another. Why didn’t I look earlier?
