Odyssey Crew Members Log based on book 9
This was the first event of my adventure as a crew member of Odysseus, and I’m overwhelmingly excited. I’m always the strange member on the ship, because I’m one of the few girls, and I followed Odysseus not because of Ithaca or some cliché romantic feelings to him. I followed him simply because I love dangerous adventures and the sound of rapid heartbeats. Just
a few weeks ago, I disguised as a young man and secretly ran out with Odysseus for my adventure dream. I’m not from Ithaca like the others, I was actually a princess of a small kingdom. I escaped the life there because I’m sick of all those arranged marriages and just want to be free in the ocean.
After the long and boring ride in ship, we landed on an island that is so beyond our imagination because everything is so huge. All the crew is having a good time until a Cyclops who called himself Polyphemus did very rude things to his guests. He ate six people of our crew, and imprisoned the survivors. When we saw our companions’s bones, we were all sick and
horrified.
At night, Odysseus and I came out a plan to escape from Polyphemus without killing him which is impossible to do. We decided to drunk him with fine wine, and blind his eye with a burning stake while he is asleep. Odysseus stopped my volunteering for poking Polyphemus’s eyeball, and said it’s too dangerous for me. But I think he just want to take all the glory himself.
In the evening, everything went like expected until Odysseus pokes into the eye-white instead of eyeball. Polyphemus realized the attack and grabbed Odysseus. I quickly used the rope for emergency and ran to save him. I climbed up the head of Polyphemus and lunged at his eye right in the middle. He screamed in pain and let Odysseus go. I poked a few more times, and the
bursting red stuff came out. While I’m still in the excitement and pride of blinding the Cyclops, I suddenly felt my leg being held by a huge hand. Before I could react, half of my body has already been chewed by the Cyclops’s mouth, and pain rushed up to my veins. At this moment, all the memories back in my kingdom appeared in my head. Suddenly, I felt an intense nostalgia that I never had before. I wished I had never left home and my parents for this immature crazy dream. I missed the luxurious life of a princess back home, and questioned myself: “Is this all worth it? To sacrifice my life for these crazy adventures?” But there’s no time left for me to
answer, I smelled the irony taste in air, then fall into the forever darkness.
