In the United States of America, we have been given the “American dream” by our constitution. According to the US constitution, each American is promised, “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Many people associate happiness with money. Lately, in the United States of America, the happy people are becoming more happy and the not-so-happy are becoming larger in population. With the outsourcing of jobs and the unemployment rate increasing rapidly, now the average American can no longer dream of rising up in life. Now the American dream has become just that... a dream. In other words, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.
Since the outsourcing of jobs is now very big in todays’ society Americans are getting a little upset because of their job losses. For instance, a year ago in February, when President Obama had a conference with Steve Jobs the founder of Apple, about bringing the outsourcing of jobs for Apple back to the United States, Steve told Obama that the jobs were not coming back. Obama was not to thrilled to hear Steve say that about American jobs. This outsourcing of jobs has accumulated over 57% of the jobs in the United States. Outsourcing has resulted in a loss of 400,000 United States jobs and estimated 3.3 million dollar budget hit by the year 2015. Once these jobs are lost Americans have to turn to government assistant plans such as unemployment.
Unemployment is basically something the government gives you to help you with your living expenses. 48 million people in a country of 300 million people are being assisted by the government by receiving food stamps, which is a 5.82% yearly increase of unemployed people on welfare. This increase in welfare is not doing any of the American citizens a favor by letting them sit at home all day not working and collecting their check, but they are giving them the help they need.
According to dictionary.com, as traditionally sought by individuals in the U.S, the American dream is “Life, personal happiness, and material comfort.” This includes the idea of closing the economic gap and the development of a strong middle class. Now that the outsourcing of jobs and the unemployment rate increasing the American dream is not able to come into play.
With all that said Americans have pretty rough lives but in general people still have lives and live normally. The political problems going on in the world don't seem to really affect most of the people. The American dream for us Americans is getting less and less possible to achieve, but all in all Americans have it better than some others in different countries.
