On Cracked Ice
His eyes opened to a white sky, the snow gently falling on his face. Now alert the boy stood up from the place he had been laying. Looking at his surronundings the boy sees he is on a plain white sheet of ice that stretched farther than his eyes could see. The boy begins to walk hoping to catch sign of anything that might lead him off the ice. Hearing the sound of a crack under his feet the boy stops in place and looks down to see the ice around his feet was cracked. "Where are you going," a voice asked. The boy looking up in the direction of which the voice came from sees a black figure with white eyes staring at him. As if the eyes had been prying into the boy's soul, the figure asks "why are you afraid?" "The ice," the boy whispered. The ice around the dark figure was cracked to where it seemed as if the ice was barely holding it up. "What are you," the boy asks. "Something you have long forgotten," the figure answers. Sam woke up in a could sweat and a racing heart. He had fallen out of his bed. Getting up and balancing himself Same made his way to the bathroom. Sam got to the bathroom and saw a shocking sight. His eyes were bloodshot and his skin was white as snow. Sam enters the kitchen to the sound of sizzling bacon, and the sight of his mother cooking. He quietly makes his way to the mudroom hoping his mother wouldn't notice hime or else she would make him stay home. Grabbing his coat and boots, Sam put his hand on the doornob of the exit. "Where are you going,"Sam's mom asked. "To the lake," Sam answered without turning around to face her. "Aren's you going to have breakfest," she persisted. "I'm not hungry," Sam replied. "Suit yourself," she shrugged. "Don't get hurt." Sam rushed out the dorr and walked along the path to the lake. When he arrived at the lake it had begun to snow. Sam thought of going back to the house before it began to snow harder, but he was pulled to the middle of the lake. As if something he needed to know was there waiting for him. As Sam got closer to the center of the lake the snow began to blur his vision and his hearing. His body began to give up on him as the snow started to pound on him harder. His arms gave out first letting his face take the full force of the snow. Then his legs gave out and he dropped to his knees. The snow then stopped and his vision was restored only to see the Dark Figure towering over him. "What do you want from me," Sam shouted "For you to remember," the Figure replied The ice under Sam then broke and he was engulfed in darkness "Look Sam, i'm a ballerina," A girl's voice giggled "Kaley be carful," Sam yelled. "The ice might break." Sam slowly made his advance towards his reckless little sister that was gliding on ice. He soon lost sight of her and started to panic. "Sam," Kaley's voice whimpered. "Kaley wha-," Sam was vut off to the sound of cracking ice. Looking in the direction of the terrifying sound, Sam saw his sister on top of cracking ice. Sweat began beading down is face and adrenaline started pumping through his vains. "i'm going to get help ok," Sam yelled. "Don't move. Kaley opened her mouth to reply but the ice broke before she could react. "no," Sam screamed. Sam dropped down to his knees and stared at the patch of broken ice his sister had fallen through. His shock was interuptted as he heard a sound below him. Sam looked down to see his sister punding on the ice below him. Sam then started to hit the ice with all the force he had in his arm. He soon blacked out from the pain in his hand. Sam woke up crying in his hospital bed the next day.
