Bad Wish
It was late Thursday, and the sky was a black sheet of silk with glitter scattered across. Leanne only had 48 hours before her sweet 16 party, and she still had no idea what she was going to do. All she knew was that she wanted to invite and wow all her friends. She went to bed at 11pm, thinking about all the possibilities. If only she knew what her friends would be impressed by. At 11:11pm, as she slowly slipped soundly into a deep sleep, she made a wish to be able to read people's minds.
Leanne awoke the next morning greeted by dark, grey clouds drowning out the sun like a large brick wall as she got ready for school. When she arrived at school, she strut down the narrow tunnel of classrooms to where her clique hung out like . She greeted her friends and started talking about her party that was happening tomorrow.
“Hey guys, I'm having my sweet 16 tomorrow! You're all invited, my house at 5.”
They all replied giddily, “OMG, we're so excited!”
Though Leanne heard their reply, she also started to hear other voices, “Ugh, she's at it again...She's so annoying...OMG, what is Leanne wearing?....What am I going to do about Bethany's party?...Does she ever stop talking?”
“What did you guys just say?” The vicious comments continued to escalate, “Why are you guys being so mean?”
Her friends stared back at her bewildered saying, “What are you talking about?” Leanne fled from the fiasco flustered by the ferocious females. She retreated to math class.
As she weaved past crowds of people as fast as a gazelle trying to escape a cheetah, Leanne heard incoherent mumbles. The voices became more prominent as if everyone was speaking into a microphone at once. Her heart pounded like the thumping of a bass drum as beads of sweat slowly trickled down her pale, green face. The last thing she remembered was the cold feeling of smooth green metal smashed against her face as she rebounded from the open locker to the rock hard floor where she blacked out. Leanne awoke greeted by beaming rays of light breaking through her bedroom window. The sunlight comforted her as she realized her nightmare was over.
