The Day my Life Changed
The Day My Life Changed
“Liz wake up it's time to go
I’m already up”
I had been up all night I still couldn’t get it through my brain what had happened. Well let me tell you let’s start at the very begging of yesterday.
“Beep beep” Whack it’s already time for school, I feel like I slept for ten minutes. I walked over to wake up my twin sister Laura.
“Laura wake up wake up it's time to go to school”
“Okay I’m up”
it was 7:30 school starts at 8:00. I went back into my room and got dressed I had my outfit already laid out. It was a white shirt with a pair of leggings and my Uggs. It was the first day of winter, so it was pretty cold. However, not too cold. When I went down stairs to eat breakfast, Laura was already sitting there eating a bowl of cereal. So, I walked over to the cabinet got out a bowl, grabbed some frosted flakes and sat down next to my sister. We were watching the news. The weather section came on. (That’s our favorite) The weatherman popped up on the screen and said, There is a big storm getting ready to hit us.” However, big storms always hit us so I wasn’t worried. All of a sudden, we heard a honk. The bus was outside I looked at the clock it was 7:55.
“Oh no”
said my sister
“We're going to be late for school” I said.
We got up put our cereal bowls on the counter grabbed our backpacks and zoomed out the door. When we got on our bus, we went and sat down in our assigned seats. My friend Hannah and I sit next to each other and Laura and my other friend Charlotte sat in the seat in front of us. We got to school at 7:58. We all ran upstairs and put our things into our lockers. Laura and I have our first class together, which is science. That’s my worst subject. We sat down at our desks. Then the principal came over the PA, and we said the pledge of allegiance. Then, we started to read our text books. Then 20 minutes later all of a sudden I heard a rumbling noise. It was getting louder, and everything was starting to shake harder and harder. Then my teacher says,
Get under you desks!”
All I could think was this is a strong earthquake . When I was sitting under my desk, I saw the lights flickering. I saw a quick glance out the window, and I saw trees falling and the roads cracking. I felt like I was in a movie, it didn’t feel real at all but I wasn’t this was actually happening. When I looked over at my sister, she looked terrified I have never seen her that scared. Then, all of a sudden it was silent all you could hear were the people screaming. We had to evacuate the building, so everyone left their rooms and started heading outside. As I was walking down the hallway, there were a couple of things on the floor, but we didn’t have nearly as much damage as some other buildings. When we got outside it was kind of chilly. We stood out there for at least a half an hour, and then the let us go back inside. We got back up to our classrooms, and we went to third period. Since it took so long to let us go back inside we got to skip 2 nd period which for me was Spanish and for my sister French. I got to third period which was language arts, and all of our bookshelves had fallen books were everywhere. So, we started to clean up and then a big huge after shock came through.
BAM BANG” “CLASH.”
That's what I heard next door, but I couldn't tell if it was in the room my sister was in or the other one. Then, we heard the fire alarms go off and everyone started to freak out. We were all walking thinking it was just going off because of the aftershock, but it wasn’t. Our school was actually on fire. Everyone got outside teachers were taking attendance. I was looking for my sister's class, I couldn't find them.
“Excuse me”, I said
I kept on saying it till I could get someone’s attention then I asked them
“is Mrs. Carlton's class?”
She said, “Are you in her class”
“ No I said,”
Then you need to go get back into line” She said
I walked back over to my class that I was in. Mr. Canton standing there looking like he didn’t know what to do. I turned around and started to talk to my friend Hannah then we heard Mr. Canton’s deep voice and he had started to call off names.
“Isabella “Here”
Hannah “Here”
Tommy “Here
It took a while for it to get to me. When he was done taking attendance, he turned around to hand it to the secretary. I was trying to decide if I should run and go look for my sister or stay there. Next thing I know I was running. I ran to the other parking lot I didn’t see them. I ran to the next area were people were and I still couldn't see them. Where could they be could they still be inside. No, they can’t be they would have gone in by now to look for them. I run to the last spot they could be and then I saw Mrs. Carlton she looked stressed do I decided to try to approach my friend. Then I saw Charlotte she was crying so I went over there to ask her why she was crying. I got over there then I felt like I didn’t want to know why she was crying because I could see my sister. I had a huge lump in my throat. Then I got all my courage and said
“Why are you crying Charlotte?”
She looked at me then I knew from that moment that my sister wasn’t to be seen. At that point I was freaking out but, Since I wasn’t sure I had to ask
“Charlotte Where is Laura?”
“Sh-she is s-still in there”
When I heard that my heart dropped. I didn’t know what to do. I started to run I ran as fast as I could then I was standing at the doors to the school. I could hear the firefighters telling me to get away from there. Then I opened the doors and a big burst of glowing fire and heat hit my face. I had just got myself into something that might end badly. I was trying to find a path that didn’t look dangerous. I started to walk faster I reached the 6 th grade hallway and I started to walk down it. I heard yelling
“HELP!”
I ran over to the room to see who was in there it was a girl there was no fire but she was stuck underneath something. So I ran in there and helped her get out she had a broken leg so I helped her out to the door and a firefighter took her and he told me to go with him. I couldn't decide whether or not to listen or to turn around to go find my sister. I was going to find my sister. I was running up to where Laura’s class was and as I was running up there a big piece of wood fell on me and I looked down my leg was burned it hurt so bad it kind of felt like a 1000000000 needles stabbing me. I had to still keep going I had finally reached the room. I looked in there was my sister laying on the floor. I walked in, a bookcase had fallen on her. It hit her head pretty hard the fire reached the inside of the classroom we were cornered by blazing hot red fire. I had no choice I had to try to get this bookcase off of my sister. I pushed and pulled her. I finally got her out so I got to a window then opened it up and jumped on the roof of the school. When I got up there I tried waking my sister up she wouldn’t wake up. Is she dead please wake up. I started to scream at the top of my lungs to try to get a firefighters attention. They came and they got my sister out. Then we were rushed to the hospital.
{ 3hours later}
Parents of laura I jumped up we got to the room she didn’t look good. The nurse said She will be paralyzed and has permanent brain damage my mom bursted out in tears I tried not to. Then she woke up .
“Who are”
Then I hear a loud beeping noise and the nurses started to yell code blue code blue. That the day my life changed.
