The Fight I Will Never Forget
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! My flimsy hand wobbled onto the wooden desk, and hit the snooze button with all the energy I had, which wasn’t much. Sunlight spilled through the windows, and onto my bed. The sound of birds chirping drowsed me even more. I could barely open my eyes, as I squinted at the clock. Exhausted, I slumped back into my soft pillow unaware that I was supposed to be up by now.

Thirty minutes passed, and I opened my eyes to find my parents storming into my room, and screeching at me loudly. Suddenly, a thought came to my head, today my cousin was coming to visit! Excited, I jumped out of bed, up and down into the bathroom. My parents started yelling again. “Alex Hurry Up!!!! Your cousin is coming!!!”

I quickly ran downstairs and stuffed my mouth with pancakes. DING! DONG! sounded the doorbell. My cousin had arrived along with my aunt and uncle. My heart started to race, because I did not expect them to arrive so early. Still in my pajamas, I ran upstairs to change to my regular clothes, and scrambled back downstairs. When I opened the door, my cousin Jason jumped in and screamed, “Hi!”

I asked my mom, “Can we go play outside?”

She replied, “Sure, but remember to put sunblock on.”

My cousin and I quickly smudged our faces with sunblock, and grabbed a baseball bat, baseball gloves, and a baseball. Everything was going well, and we were having a lot of fun. We played for an hour, until my aunt screamed, “Guys time to eat lunch!”

After lunch, I climbed into the gray and humid garage to get my basketball. I quickly ran to the backyard and gave the ball to my cousin. My backyard was really big, and included a basketball hoop. My cousin dribbling the basketball, said to me, “Let’s play a one on one basketball game.”

I replied, “Sure.”

I didn’t really want to play one on one games with my cousin because he was always unfair. However, I knew that I was better than him in basketball, so I wanted to play against him. I felt like I didn’t really care if he plays unfair or not, because I wanted to win.

I said to him, “You can start with the ball.”

He grinned at me, and snatched the ball out of my hands and knocked me over and scored. I yelled at him, “That’s a foul!!”

He didn’t really care and gave the ball to me. “Your turn,” he said.

I tried to dribble at him and score, but he took his to gigantic hands, and slammed them into my face, causing me to flop onto the ground. A cut appeared on my leg, that started to bleed. Not caring, my cousin shot the ball, and the net splashed up, as the ball flew straight through. “4-0,” my cousin bragged.

Tears started to form in my eyes, I screamed at him, “You big fat cheater.”

I angrily snatched the ball and shot it at the three point line, the orange basketball flew, and completely missed the hoop, and flew into the grass. I got really mad now, and stomped to get the ball. My cousin bragged, “Since it’s 4-0, I will let you have the ball.”

I gripped the big, round basketball with all my might. I had enough of this. Sweat pouring down my face, I charged at my cousin dribbling the basketball. I hit him so hard, I sent him flying. All I could see, was him flying onto the hard concrete floor. BAM! I saw his head smash into the concrete ground, it must have hurt. He laid on the ground looking like a sleeping sloth. All of a sudden when I wasn’t looking, he stood back up and shouted, “What was that for?”
Jason pushed me to the ground, and my head slammed into the ground. The pain stung in the back of my head forming a sweltering blister. But I didn’t care, I was beyond caring. I just wanted to hurt him. I swung a powerful kick at his stomach. He punched me in the chest and jumped on me. Pain flowing through my body, I slowly got up. My cousin was only two years older, I couldn’t give up.
I picked up my basketball, and gripped it with both hands. My heart beating loudly, I threw the basketball at him with all my might. The ball flew straight at him, and I knew where it was going to hit him. I quickly ran in the corner of my backyard. I could see the scene clearly from here. The ball had struck him squarely in the face. He flopped onto the concrete floor, and banged his head on the ground. Momentarily, his nose started to bleed. I knew I was going to get in trouble when my parents came home. Jason looked like he was drunk, but he wanted revenge. Staring right at me, Jason shouted, “You suck!” As he started to walk toward me with the basketball. I quickly dashed across the backyard, looking at his arm winding up and throwing the ball at me. The ball shot like a bullet at my legs, I dived. My face hit the soft green grass. My cousin looked like he was going to cry, because he missed. He ran back into the house and shouted, “I am never coming back again, loser!”

I shouted back, “I never cared about you anyway!”

My cousin disappeared into the house leaving the backyard door open. Exhausted, I slumped down on the grass.

Ten minutes later, my parents stomp into the backyard and start to scream at me. I did not realize what I did to my cousin. My cousin was lying on the couch with around 10 cuts, seemed unconscious, and his nose was bleeding. My parents screamed at me loudly, and I was in trouble for the rest of the day. I could not play video games for three months.

The following day, I realized my cousin was in the hospital because he had a concussion and a broken nose from the ball I threw at his face. He had to stay at the hospital for three days, and was probably going to miss school. I started regretting the actions I did to my cousin, because he played with me every year, and I always had fun with him. I sent him a card,Later that year, I realized how bad this was, and tried to call my cousin and tell him to come and visit again. But, I never saw him again.

The small moment that inspired this piece was me arguing with my cousin.
