I love you, hypothetically
I have no idea where it happened, how it happened, why it happened and how it happened.
But it happened.
It wasn't even a conversation. We didn't even know eachothers names. We didn't have like
a five second connection, either. And we never even knew of eachother until that very day.
He smiled at me 'Hey, what happened to you?'
We sat side by side in the nurse's room as complete strangers.
I looked at him and returned the smile 'I twisted my foot during softball. What
about you?'
'I burnt myself by accident in the Chem lab' he replied as he rose his hand
Just then, the nurse walked back into the room. She sprayed some pain reliever on my injured
ankle and covered it with a bandage.
She then turned to him and applied some cream -thing on his burn. He winced, and when she turned,
pretended to scream. I laughed slightly, he was such a dork.
'I'm late for my class, what time is it?' he asked me
'Twelve five' I replied
He rose his eyebrows 'My class ends at twelve ten'
'Stop talking' the nurse commanded as she pointed at a person who was sleeping in the very same room.
And so we sat silently for five minutes, secretly avoiding each other's gaze.
I knew a lot of senior guys who thought I liked them and I had no intentions of adding him to my list.
That's why I kept looking at everything in the room besides him.
Who knew five minutes was so long?
When twelve ten finally loomed by I got up and started walking towards the door.
Before I opened the door I heard him call out 'Hey!'
I turned around.
'Get well soon' he completed with a smile
I laughed and replied 'You too'
Every lesson after that there were instances which reminded me of him. Like when were discussing First Aid we
talked about burns. When I went to the Chem lab I thought of him. When I asked my friend what time I should
come by her place she replied 'Around twelve ten'
Those mini-incidents just made me smile. And soon enough he was all I thought about.
That night on Facebook he popped up on my chat
HEY, HOW'S YOUR FOOT? :)
I replied,
GOOD, HOW'S YOUR BURN? :P
he responded,
I HATE CHEMISTRY, CAN'T BELIEVE I TOOK IT THIS YEAR.
LOL:) SO, DID YOU GET CAUGHT FOR SKIPPING A LESSON?
YUP. DETENTION. :P
FOR ONE LESSON?
YOU SKIPPED ONE?
WHY, YOU SKIPPED TWO? :o
I SKIPPED FOUR ;)
LOL:D
And so we continued a completely normal and innocent conversation. Soon
enough we were talking about school, friends, relationships, movies, books
and annoying teachers. Once we were done I realised we had been chatting for over two hours.
One day he came upto me in school 'Got a minute?'
'Yup' I replied as he pulled me aside
'I can't believe I'm asking you this, I'm such a dork'
'Still have no idea, whatsoever'
'Can you act?'
'Yeah, why?'
'I need you to act to be my...... girlfriend' he said, shamefully looking down
Obviously. He was two years senior. How lame would it be to ask a sophomore to pretend to be his
girlfriend?
All the more reason it was exciting for me.
'Sure' I chirped 'To make an ex jealous?'
'No' he said 'Actually, it's to prove that I have a shot with the sophomores too'
He smiled 'So there's this party tonight'
'I'll be there'
And so we went for this party-thing together. It was awesoem for me, I mean a senior party.
What the hell? :)
He came up to me with a drink.
'I don't drink' I said to him
He laughed 'Relax, I wasn't asking you too'
I smiled and that's when it happened.
The connection.
Pretty much like Mr. Darcy, I had no idea I had started the crush by the time I was already in
the middle of it.
'Hey... do you, um wanna dance?' he offered as he held out his hand
'Sure' I replied, accepting the invitation.
'So' he said as we danced 'What's up, my hypothetical girlfriend?'
I laughed 'You make the night so special my supposed boyfriend'
He joined in with a chuckle 'I like your eyes, apparently'
'I think we're perfect, supposedly'
'I love you, hypothetically'
My heart twitched and stomach turned as I replied 'I love you too, in theory'
