It was the little things about Nathan that got my heart racing. The way his chocolate brown hair never seemed to be in the right place or the way he rubbed his sleepy blue eyes when he was tired. He left a sweet smell of cologne everywhere he went and made me smile in ways no one else could. I don’t know just exactly it was about Nathan, but he got me hooked from the start.
However, we were great friends and there was no way I wanted to ruin that. We would send some flirty texts here and there, but I never felt like he was ready to take the next move so I moved on. I watched him talk to numerous girls and complain about different heartaches for months. He had no idea how I felt, but there was no way I could tell him. I didn’t know if he would or did ever have feelings for me, but I do know everything changed that day at the beach.
One long weekend, we all decided to go to the beach, Nathan included. It was so much fun and I loved being able to spend a few days with all of my friends, but it got me thinking. It’s my senior year and I have nothing to lose. I have to tell Nathan how I feel. The last day we spent swimming and playing games on the beach and I knew exactly how I wanted it all to go down. After we ate dinner and got the campfire started, I asked Nathan to go for a walk. We talked about random things and were flirty, but I didn’t know what or how to say it. He interrupted my thought.
“Listen, Allie. I don’t want this to come between us if you don’t feel the same way or make things awkward, but I have to tell you something.”
“Of course. You can tell me anything,” I awkwardly said while trying to rack my brain around what was about to happen. I put my thoughts aside and listened.
“Well, we’ve been friends for a long time and I…wow…I really don’t know how to put this.” He paused and looked at the ground. He then ran his fingers through his messy hair and looked at me with the biggest smile.
“Dammit, Allie. I really like you, as more than friends. I’ve had these crazy feelings for you for so long, but I didn’t know how you felt and didn’t want to ruin what we have. You are such an amazing girl and I hope this doesn’t make things weird. I just had to tell you before I lost the chance.”
I had no idea what to say. This was the moment I’d been waiting for for so long and I had not one word to say. Then a feeling came across me that I’ve never felt before and I kissed him. He looked at me with wide eyes and I giggled because that really was the only way I could describe how I felt. He bit his lip and shook his head with the biggest smile.
“Wow. I’m just….wow.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you, I just had to make sure you knew I have been feeling the same way about you for so long. That’s why I asked you to go on a walk!”
He grabbed me by the sides and pulled me in. This was it, this was the moment I had pictured for months and finally everything was falling into place.  Nathan was finally mine and it couldn’t have happened more perfectly.
