"We lay out our lives in a narrative we understand, like a movie, but are you enjoying making it or are you wondering who’s watching my movie.” - Donald Glover

Scene 1

Veronica: “One day, I'm going to get promoted. I just need to make it to the end of this summer. They will be sure to promote me. I dont know what I will do if they don't. I mean, I already work my fingers to the bone. I clean, wait tables, give tours of the boat. I do it all. I don't think I can handle much else on my pl-”

Captain: “Veronica!”

(The captain comes down from his post to speak with Veronica)

Captain: “Veronica, we have a new intern coming on board. His name is Oscar, and you are in charge of training him.”

Veronica: “I can't, already have lots of work to do.

Captain: “I don’t care. You are going to train him and that’s final.”

(Captain heads out stage left and Veronica frowns, heading out stage right.)

SCENE TWO

(The captain and Veronica are greeting the new intern downstage)

Captain: “Oscar! I’m so glad you can be joining us today.”

(The captain and Oscar shake hands.)

Oscar: “Thank you! I'm glad to be here!”

(The captain steps aside and Veronica steps up)

Captain: “This is Veronica. She will be training you. I will leave you two to get to know each other.”

(Captain leaves and Veronica and Oscar shake hands)

Oscar: “Hello Veronica.”

(Oscar says sexily with a cheeky smirk on his face. Veronica, already frustrated from earlier events, groans.)

(Veronica looks at him with a bit of interest.)

Veronica:“Hey”

(A man is seen from afar, waving at Veronica. She waves back and smiles.)`

Oscar: “Who's that?”

Veronica: “Oh that’s my boyfriend.

(A look of realization plasters on her face.)

Veronica: “Oh my gosh. I totally forgot about our date later! I'm sorry but I must go.”

(Veronica runs offstage leaving Oscar alone)

Oscar:“Boyfriend? We’ll see about that.”

SCENE THREE

(Veronica and Roberto are on their date, but you can barely see Oscar in the background as they argue.)

Veronica: “I don’t understand why you’re being like this, Roberto!”

Roberto: “What I don’t understand is why you’re spending all your time with that intern!”

Veronica: “His name is Oscar!”

Roberto: “Who cares!”

Veronica: “It’s not my fault the captain made me teach him; don’t you dare put the blame on me!”

Roberto: “Oh please! You act like I didn’t see the way you looked at him when he boarded the ship!”

(Veronica looks down at the floor quietly and angrily.)

Roberto: “I knew it, I can’t believe you, Veronica.”

(Roberto storms off.)

Veronica: “Roberto!”

(Oscar comes forward and hugs and comforts her. They look at each other intimately, they stare for a moment and then they kiss. Roberto witnesses and runs off.)

Veronica: ” I can’t do this; I can’t do this to Roberto!” (She runs off.)

SCENE FOUR

(The kitchen. The chef is making all the crew’s food when the intern walks in)

Chef: “I've been expecting you. You’re here for the tour, yes?”

(The intern nods and the chef begins to show him around)

Chef: “Okay well I will give you a quick rundown of everything. Heres the bowls and plates, the silverware, the pantry and the fridge. The ovens and stuff are over there and uh... Yeah.”

(Oscar looks around, and notices a bottle labeled “RAT POISONING” He points at it)

Oscar: “What is that?”

Chef: “Oh that? Don’t worry about it. It's just some rat poisoning in case we get an infestation like back in 1963. Boy, was that a doozy, let me tell you-”

Oscar: “Uh, lunch?”

Chef: “Of course! Better get on that, see you, Oscar.”

Oscar: “Alright! Bye.”

(The cook smiles and turns his back on the intern, continuing his work. While the Chef isn't looking, Oscar steals the rat poison and runs off of the stage.)

SCENE FIVE

(We are in the dining hall and the chef is preparing the table)

Chef: “Hm... I must be missing something. Let's see. I have everyone's name plates laid out. There are soup spoons, regular spoons, steak knives, forks. Ah! I'm missing the salad forks. Let me go grab those.”

(The chef runs off stage as Oscar runs on with the rat poison in his hand.)

Oscar: “Hmm... Where is Robertos name plate?”

(Oscar begins to look around before finding it sat at the end of the table next to Veronicas. Oscar pours the poison into Robertos food.)

Oscar: “Everything is going according to plan...”

(Oscar snickers before hearing the chef coming back. He runs off stage as the chef comes on.)

Chef: “There we go. Now, everything is neat and perfect!”

(The chef rings the dinner bell and everyone else comes running in, sitting in their respective spots.)

Chef: “Hello everyone. Today I have prepared a steak, cooked to everyone's preference, with collard greens. You all can eat whenever ready.”

(The crew thanks the chef and begins to dig into their meal. Soon, a sick looks plaster on Roberto'sface. He throws up on the floor and everyone gets up and take a couple of steps back.)

Captain “Jeez Roberto!”

Oscar: “Is everything alright?”

Veronica: “Roberto! No!”

(The chef comes rushing in)

Chef: “What happened here?!”

Veronica: “Roberto just threw up everywhere!”

Chef: “Oh my. Alright then, come with me Roberto, I'm so sorry everyone. I... I don’t know what went wrong.”

(The chef helps Roberto up and begins to take him off of the stage. Robertos head flops backwards and he passes out. Veronica sobs and hugs Oscar. As everyone leaves the stage.)

SCENE SIX

(Roberto is in a coma, and Veronica is in his room waiting for him to wake up, sitting in a chair and watching Roberto. The door slams open and Veronica jumps)

Captain: “Hey, sorry I didn’t mean to startle you. I’m going to check the cameras  if you want to come?”

Veronica: “Oh, sure.”

(The captain and Veronica exit, moments later Oscar enters.)

Oscar: “Time to finish this once and for all!” (He raises his knife to Roberto ready to stab him.)

(Rebecca enters. She walks backwards trying to not spill her tray.)

Rebecca: “Hey Roberto, I made you some soup. I figured you might not be up for a full meal.”

(Rebecca turns around and screams, Oscar stabs her to death. The stage goes dark and the light switches to everyone in the camera room.)

Captain: “Oh dear god. It was Oscar!”

(Veronica and the captain run through the ship, but when they get there Oscar is already gone and Rebecca is on the floor.)

Scene Seven

(Captain and Veronica run into the kitchen to get the chef.)

Captain: “Chef! It was Oscar. He is the one behind all of this! He killed Rebecca and put some sort of poisoning into Robertos food!”

Chef: “Oh my god. I'll go get Alberto. You two get to safety.”

(The chef grabs a rolling pin off of the table and leaves opposite of the Captain and Veronica. He runs into Albertos room and sees Oscar, trying to kill Alberto. He grabs onto Oscar and pulls him away.)

Chef: “Why! Why would you do this?”

Oscar: “It all started whenever my grandmother died. She was the only thing that made sense in this cold, uncaring world, and she left me. Nothing made sense... Until Veronic came along. I needed her all to myself. I-”

(The chef hits him on the back of his head with a rolling pin and ties him up onto a chair.)

Chef: “Jeez... You guys! Get in here!”

(The rest of the crew comes flooding in.)

Captain: “Chef! I already called the coast guard; we are close enough to shore. They should be getting here any minute now.”

Chef: “Thank God. I knocked him out. He wouldn’t shut up about his dead grandma. Nothing makes sense to me; the world is so cruel. Blah blah blah.”

Captain: “We should go wait on the police while he is knocked out.”

Veronica: “Agreed.”

(Everyone leaves to the edge of the ship and the coast guard pulls up and boards.)

Scene Eight

(The police are boarding the ship)

Captain: “He’s right this way Chief.”

(The chef, captain, and Veronica show the Chief to Oscar. But he isn't there.)

Veronica: “Oh my god! He’s gone!”

(Water splashing. They all run out onto the balcony.)

Chef: “There he is!”

Captain: “Man overboard!”

(Everyone scrambles downstage to find him, but Oscar was nowhere to be seen)

Veronica: “No! We were to late!”

Chef: “How did he escape!”

Captain: “We have to find him!”

(The crew murmurs to themselves until the chief of police speaks up)

Chief: “We will be on the lookout for him. In the meantime, you folks stay safe and on the lookout. We will be in contact with you all shortly. We must get you off the boat though, for your safety. We don’t know when he could strike next.”

Captain: “Alright, I'll alert the rest of the crew.”

Chief: “Don’t worry, me and my team can handle that. For now, please exit the ship and get yourselves to safety.”

(The chief of police escorts the crew off stage.)

Scene Nine

(Rebeccas Funeral. A couple of days have gone by.)

Veronica: I can’t believe she’s gone...

Captain: “One of the best darn crewmates I've ever had. I’m sorry for your loss, Veronica.”

Veronica: “Thank you.”

(They all sit in sorrows for a moment, sharing joyful memories. After a bit, they all exit. The spotlight hits a different spot, and a shadowy figure emerges. Oscar appears.)

Oscar: “They thought this way the end of me, this won’t be the last they see of me.”
