My Cultureal Adventures

My family and I love to travel and see the world. Whether it’s Australia, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, etc. One of my favorite adventures was when my family and I traveled to Mexico. I always pictured Mexico to be a tropical place filled with beauty and nice people. However, I learned that outside of resorts there is a lot of crime that goes on and most of the country is living in poverty. Ill never forget when our tour guide told us “watch your bags closely because people will take stuff without you feeling a thing.” Mexico isn’t all bad though, if you go to the resorts everything is gorgeous. The ocean is picture perfect and the people there wear fun, bright clothing.

Another cultural adventure I had was when my family adopted a foreign exchange student from Spain. My family and I became really close with her. When we first picked her up from the airport I was a little unsure about how things were going to work out. However, she adapted to our culture very quickly. The most interesting experience with her visit was her first day of school. When she went to my High School she said everything was completely different from her school back home. In Spain they don’t switch classes, the teachers just change rooms. Also they all have to wear uniforms where here only private schools have to. Music was another big difference here from Spain. Our exchange student obviously only listened to music in Spanish. So when she would let me listen I had no idea what the song was saying. One thing that she made sure she did when she came to America was get involved in a lot of activities. She joined the track team, went to school dances, and participated in a youth group call YoungLife. Getting involved was one of the best decisions she made because it taught her a lot about American culture and made her trip worth wild. When she showed me pictures from her life back home in Spain it made me want to go there. Everything is so pretty and people there seem to have so much fun. When she had to go back to Spain it was really hard on my family and me but hopefully one day we’ll get to go visit her.

Those are two of my cultural adventures and I hope to have many more to share with people in the future!
