Just a Little Girl
There are white walls, white sheets, white ceiling tiles, and then there’s me: black tee shirt, skinny jeans, mascara streaked ashen cheeks, and a bandaged wrist. An accident that could have been averted had my best friend stood up for me when her friend told me to put a gun to my head and pull the trigger, if my x-boyfriend hadn’t spread explicit rumors about me, if my daddy would stop hitting me for one second to see the tears in my eyes and the smile he broke years before. I don’t understand why they hate me so much. I’m just an insecure little girl looking for someone who will protect me from the monsters in this cruel world like my daddy, the orderlies, and the people at school.
