Feedback on Isabel Nelson’s ”Separating the Artist from the Art”
Isabel Nelson’s point of view piece “Separates the Artist from the Art” focuses on musical artists R.Kelly and Michael Jackson. Both of them are guilty of sexual assault. The piece gives an overview of two documentaries that were made about the artists. She depicted the harsh lives victims went through after they were assaulted featured in the documentaries.
Isabel efficiently related the conflicting situation of separating artists and their crimes from their music to her and other people’s lives. She says to readers, “You have to think about if you were a family member of the victim, or even the victim yourself. How would you feel hearing your assaulters voice on the radio?” This part really stuck with me because I know that if I was in a horrible situation like this, hearing my assaulters music on the radio would take a negative toll on me. I agree with Isabel, although R.Kelly and Michael Jackson may have created songs we like, we can’t just excuse their horrific actions.
