Feedback on Support After Sexual Assault
It is life changing. It is an experience that people will never forget. I can't imagine how a victim of sexual assault could return to living a life even similar to the one that they previously had. In Alex Helm's article, "Support After Sexual Assault," the struggles of emotional recovery are depicted as being as terrible as the actual incident. This incredibly moving piece illustrates how horrific the effects of rape on people are, by putting us in the life of a person who had to go through it.
I especially was startled by the last line of the piece, which was the victim Joanne addressing all other sexual assault victims. It is like a punch in the gut of the reader, ending the piece with a short but hauntingly to the point, "You are not alone." I enjoyed reading this piece and while it was heartbreaking, it was extremely well written and put readers in the moment with the people that the article describes.
