The Borrowers was a piece that very much peeked my interest. During October you expect the theme to be scary but reading through this story really did send shivers down my spine, it was a surprise that the author Andy Spencer chose to describe the creature as the story itself instead of writing about what the creature did other than just “having its tongue in your brain” it was a nice change of pace to the usual haunted mansion or the out of ordinary creature that lives at the bottom of the lake. I really enjoyed the story but also I think it left out some realism, some kind of realistic psychological thrill to the story which was left out.

This was in fact my favorite pieces because the detailing of the monster was very unique. In all of the horror stories that I have read or seen I have never heard of a creature that has emerald eyes or that it tries to pull out your teeth. Reading that actually caused me to stay mute for the rest of the day because the sheer thought of having my teeth removed from my gums and seeing a tongue emerge from its mouth just to enter my nose so that it may reach my brain did in fact scare the life out of me. When I read this I imagine that the character must be very frightened, unsettled and very nostalgic from having his teeth removed and having a tongue in his head trying to get at his brain but instead the character said that getting his teeth removed was a “normal thing”. He says that what is happening to him now is normal and that it was something that was reoccurring and would almost never end. In short I was terrified by this story.
