I'm Afraid of the Movies
In “I’m Afraid of the Movies” by Emily T. the author goes about describing how she once used to enjoy going to the movies and soaking in the environment, but now she feels she must do a thorough search to ensure there is not danger in the room. The author describes how “movie theaters aren’t what they used to be.” She lists all of the dates of the movie theater shootings in the US. I can personally relate to how the author is feeling.
After reading Emily’s article I felt much better about my personal fears of who or what could be lurking in a public place. I can relate to how Emily feels movie theaters are “…dangerous, scary places full of enclosed rooms that suffocate me with fear” because just like her it scares me that tragic events like a movie theater shooting are extremely prevalent in the United States. Recently, I became scared to go Black Friday shopping because of all the news about the recent threats being put on the US by terrorist groups.
