Toxic Masculinity: Why Big Boys Don't Cry
"Toxic Masculinity: Why Big Boys Don't Cry," by Callie Z. talks about how men do feel emotions just as much as thier female counterparts do. I agree with Callie when they say that men can feel emotions and that they are capable of emotion. According to the article, "Gender stereotypes...assume that an individual can be understood by qualities of the group they belong to.... Such thinking ignores the individual's personality and temperament, and disregards the complexity of human beings," and "The stereotype of emotional stocism in men is not only invalid but harmful. It is rooted in false logic, discredited science, and antiquated ideas." Men are humans who can feel the same type of emotions as women do, and teaching them to suppress them disables them on how to control and express them when they get older, instead of encouraging them that it is okay to feel.
Thank you, Callie, for sharing an important point of view that I wholeheartedly agree with.
