Hannah Higgins’ letter to Albus Dumbledore asking where her Hogwarts acceptance letter was a very amusing and relatable piece. Every Harry Potter fan, myself included, has dreamed of an owl flying into their home to deliver that magical letter, even if they are older than the legal wizarding age of 17. They refuse to believe they are just muggles, living their lives as just regular people. They want to experience the train ride to Hogwarts, the Quidditch tryouts, and all of the other things J.K. Rowling portrays in her world of magic. That’s why not getting a letter simply must be a mistake; surely we all have potential to be a witch or wizard!
I especially liked the lines, “For example, one time in the fifth grade I sneezed and my dog levitated! Now, it is up to interpretation whether the dog simply jumped out of fear, but my analysis is that my dog did in fact levitate.” They show how the author believes everything to be a sign that she does indeed have magical abilities, but the second sentence actually admits that nothing special might have actually happened to the dog. I found it very comedic, along with the rest of the piece. I hope you get your letter soon, Hannah!
