“Everyone says love hurts, but that is not true. Loneliness hurts. Rejection hurts. Losing someone hurts. Envy hurts. Everyone gets these things confused with love, but in reality love is the only thing in this world that covers up all pain and makes someone feel wonderful again. Love is the only thing in this world that does not hurt.”

I enjoyed reading the poem "Monsters" by Vivian Zhao because it gave me feelings of sentimentality as she talked about her childhood monsters. When she mentioned rape and terrorism, I immediately thought of previous current event essays I had to do. For instance, Omran Daqneesh, the little boy who was involved in a Syrian bombing, was one of the current events assigned in the class that involved terrorism. I am fond of Zhao's poem because I also "wish my monsters were only shadows again." Your poetry is really empowering because it made me realize how much I miss my childhood. I miss the carefree days that were filled in ignorance.
