I found Irene Park's article, "Not That Korean" extremely moving from the way she discusses about a topic that is merely looked at today, the loss of culture and selfworthyness. Moments of light critisism that seem like unhurtful statements press people to rethink parts of themselves. Jokes are thrown around continuesly, but they don't realize the consequences that may occur. Park's story has made me realize that I myself have been through similar situations involving the loss of interest and pride. As her "dislike for Korean culture multiplied by a million" after being rejected of her dreams of becoming a teacher I also found myself disliking my aunts and uncles for judging my choice in career, increasing the confusion I felt for the Hispanic culture. However, this article has pushed me to remember that my choices and likes should not have to be edited and fixed by society, family, or self-consiousness. Thank you, Irene for demonstrating what strengh it took to overcome what others may have said against what you've truly wanted. I will continue to keep doing what I love with and without my Hispanic culture.
