Love is making people go mad, power is making people go absurd this is all examples of madness going on in this world today. In today’s discussion I’m going to contrast the similarties of madness in Hamlet by William Shakespeare and madness in the world of today.
To start, let me compare in today’s life to the madness in the book of Hamlet. Hamlet was a young prince who’s father was murdered by his uncle. On his quest to solve his father’s murder. An example from the work is the dialogue that Hamlet says, “Now I might I do it pat, now he is praying; and now I’ll do’t. And so he goes to heaven . And so I am revenged. That would be scann’d. A villain kills my father; and for that, I, his sole son, do this same villain send To heaven.” (3.3.1). He comes into conflict with his uncle as he is the one who killed Hamlet’s father. Claudius tries to turn everyone against Hamlet and says that he’s crazy.
Secondly, while Claudius is focused on sending Hamlet away to Norway to have him killed. Ophelia drowns and kills herself, down at the lake not to far from the castle, because she can’t face reality. As Hamlet was on his way to Norway and his friends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern try to sent him up for an assassination by planting letters in his pockets saying he was a spy.
Lastly, in today’s world there is a delima going on between North Koreas leader trying to bomb South Korea. North Korea has been working on there nuclear bombs and testing them. This has great extent to South Koreas society has it can affect them or get them involved. As it is scaring them it is also wanting them to retaliate back at North Korea.
In conclusion, the purpose of this essay was to demonstrate the comparssion between madness going on in todays world and in books we read in todays classrooms. Its to show that there’s a purpose in the writing as it has a moral in the end of the story.
