The Benefits of Medical Marijuana
Over 158 million people use marijuana around the world, that's over 4% of the population. But just over 1 million use medical cannabis. That number should begin to change as more people find out what medical cannabis does for you, the more legal it will become because surprisingly smoking it is good for you. When people smoke medical marijuana they use it for specific reasons such as pain and brain injuries. The medical marijuana doesn't give you a high, the high is actually bad for you, causing frightful hallucinations and giving the brain different signals which can lead to seizures and even death. So taking out the oils in the plant that gets you high can be healthy for the people that use it. That's why it should be legal and more can use it for medical purposes.
The first thing is the way medical cannabis can help you. Is internal pain. Studies show that THC activates pathways in the central nervous system that block pain signals from being sent to the brain. A low dose of THC provided statistically 30% reductions in pain intensity when compared to other pain medications. Even war veterans use it to help with PTSD. THC has shown to be a highly effective treatment option. Some psychiatrist say that THC cannabis is the only treatment. Studies have confirmed that THC eases a variety of PTSD related symptoms including agitation, depression, insomnia, flashbacks, and nightmares. This means that for those suffering from PTSD, they can finally get the peaceful sleep they need to heal and regain balance in their lives. All they need is access to safe cannabis that helps many people that have served our country.
Another reason why medical cannabis should be legalized is that it promotes brain health. THC activates the “CB1 receptor” in our brains. This stimulation promotes a process known as long-term increase in strength which improves the brain’s ability to learn. This is why small doses of cannabis can treat or even prevent diseases such as Alzheimer’s. If that weren't enough, we also have a study showing people with THC in their systems are 80% more likely to survive head trauma. Also it enhances your senses, Cannabis used with intention and the right dosage levels provides countless benefits. From life-changing surprises to enhanced creativity to deeper beliefs . For many people, the enhancing effects of THC provide very real psychological benefit and relief.
What is CBD you might ask? CBD is one of many compounds, known as cannabinoids, in the cannabis plant. Researchers have been looking at the possible uses of CBD. You also might ask if CBD is is marijuana? Until recently, the best known compound in cannabis was tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This is the most active ingredient in marijuana. Marijuana contains both THC and CBD, and these have different effects. THC creates a mind changing "high" when a person smokes it or uses it in cooking. This is because THC breaks down when we apply heat and puts it into the body. CBD is different. Unlike THC, it is not mind changing. This means that CBD does not change a person's state of mind when they use it. However, CBD does appear to produce significant changes in the body, and some research suggests that it has medical benefits.
The final reason for legalizing marijuana is gang violence would decrease. Legalising cannabis would take the trade out of the hands of criminal gangs. That would reduce their crazy influence in both cannabis importing countries and the places where it’s produced. Legalized marijuana could be properly regulated to certain quality and safety just like any other product. When it’s sold illegally on the street, nobody controls what dangerous substances could be mixed in with it. No longer chasing smokers, law enforcement could focus on dealing with hard druggies who do real harm. Also Weed is less harmful than legal drugs like alcohol or tobacco, so keeping it banned is dumb. In fact, cannabis has proven health benefits, to preventing epilepsy or easing the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. There are no health grounds to keep it illegal, it’s purely a hangover from the days when pot was considered a dangerous import. Tobacco is more addictive than cocaine, but there is no sign that marijuana causes addiction. If you ban marijuana you may as well ban burger eating, bungee jumping or any other dangerous thing.
*This is not promoting recreational marijuana*
