I Finally Got to See Him
Talking through letters, rare calls, and Facetime. I was finally able to see him. Him, my brother. After a long lasting six months of boot camp, he finally graduated. Sitting in the bleachers at the ceremony. With 90 degree weather and a bright blue sky and no clouds beating down on my neck. However there he was.
HIM!!
My brother…
Jamie!!
I was watching him and his company “Bravo” march out. His group was the first group to walk out. His company was the top class of all of the companies. There were four maybe even five companies. I was sitting in my seat very anxiously. I wanted to dash over to him and give him a enormous hug. When all of the companies had gotten out onto the field they were standing there waiting for the announcer.
“Hello everyone and thank you for coming out today,” said the man in a peppy voice.
The announcer had called out the top ten soldiers of all the companies, Jamie was top eight. I looked down at him as he looked up at my family with a huge smile on his face. His smile was very contagious. Tears filled our eyes. Not sad tears but happy and proud tears.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Tears from my eyes were falling
Very,
Slowly.
I was beyond proud of him. Words couldn't even express how happy I was for him. At the ceremony there were probably over two hundred people in the stands. Figuring out my way to him through all of these people would truly be challenging.
“Calm down, you will see him one way or another,” my mom said.
Unfortunately I didn't think I could calm down or wait any longer. My other family members were able to see him a few months ago but I was not able to, so I had every reason to be anxious.
I made my way down the bleachers through the challenging path of strangers. I walked very quickly over to him. He gave me the biggest and happiest hug I think that he could. The hug had lasted two- three mitunes. I was so excited because it had been so long. When the tears had finally stopped they came down once again. But this time they came a lot faster. While we were still there my family and I had got to meet all of my brothers friends and his drill sergeant.
Hearing all of the stories and memories that he had shared me very happy. I could tell how much he LOVED being able to serve for our country.
I think that Fort Benning Georgia will always have a humongous place in my family and I’s hearts. We shared so many happy stories there and spent a large amount of time together. I will never forget the time I spend with my brother, Jamie.
