Louisa May Alcott wrote a total of 5 books. Her career started when she was part of the Civil War as one of the nurses who took care of injured soldiers. Before, she wanted to be a writer she wanted to be a nurse to make enough profits for her family. Alcott writes for all ages. Some of her books are for young kids while others are for the adults to enjoy.

To begin with, her inspiration came from when she was stationed as a nurse for the Civil War. She was drawing sketches and was writing journal entries when she noticed that she was serious about writing. She first wrote about her family struggles. After she wrote her first book, she made her books about her family's life. Her early life was challenging. Her family was struggling a lot to make profits so they all had to get jobs which made Louisa a nurse.

Second of all, Louisa attended Temple School. Temple School was her parents' school. They created the school because she didn't have an education and they didn't have enough money for anything. So, college for her was pretty easy. She went to school for nursing. After college, she went to be a nurse for the Civil War. Alcott did not get married. She just focused on her writing.

In addition, since Louisa didn't get married she had help from her family friends. For example, Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson to help improve her creative writing. Her book “Little Women” was her best selling book. This book was explaining her relationship with her three sisters. If you read the book you experience the sense of a strong relationship. “Little Women” is about the lives of the girls growing up to be young ladies. Louisa May Alcott later died of a stroke. She will be missed tremendously.

To sum up, Louisa left a quote for us. “Good books, like good friends, are few and chosen; the more select, the more enjoyable.” This quote means that you have a variety of friends to choose from. You have to be wise on who you choose because they are the ones that make your life memorable.
