Deer hunting

I have been deer hunting for about five years, but I have never shot a buck. One of the reasons why I think I haven’t been seeing as many deer is because the state built a highway through my grandpa’s woods where I hunt. However, this year I put out some trail cameras and they have taken pictures of some pretty big bucks. I have also been bowhunting this year and I have seen some smaller bucks and a few does. This year I am hoping to shoot one of the big bucks I have seen on the trail camera. That is why one of my life goals is to shoot a big buck. The reasons why this is my life goal is because I would remember it my whole life, I put a lot of effort into hunting, and I have never shot a buck before.

My first reason why I want to shoot a buck is that “I would remember it my whole life.” I would never forget the moment of shooting a buck and holding its head up by its antlers. It will also help me feel more confident the next time I go hunting and see a buck because I will be calmer and I will be able to get a better shot. When I see a deer while hunting, I get excited and my heart starts to beat fast. It will also make me a better hunter. I will find out things I did do well when shooting the buck, and things I should do better for next time. Which leads to my second reason why I want to shoot a buck, which is “I put a lot of effort into hunting.”

For the past few years, I haven’t been doing much to increase my chances of shooting a buck. This year I have done some things to increase my chances from the past years. I’ve put up four trail cameras in the woods I hunt in. A trail camera is a waterproof camera that straps to a tree and it takes pictures of deer and other animals that walk by it. This helps me track where the deer are, what time they are moving, and it shows me what stand has the biggest bucks walking by it. This year I have also started bow hunting. I like bowhunting because the season is longer, which allows me to go hunting before other people are able to go out with their guns. This year, I tried to go out bowhunting almost every day after school, and I was able to see some does and a few bucks. I took a shot at a buck with my bow, but I hit it high and the arrow didn’t kill him. My trail camera took a picture of the same buck I shot at and I could see where the arrow hit and he is still alive and walking around in the woods. I have also been practicing shooting my bow and gun a lot more this year as well. During the summer I tried to shoot my bow almost every day, which made me a better shot. This leads to my third reason why I would like to shoot a big buck, which is “I have never shot a buck before.”

I have been going hunting since fifth grade and I have never shot a buck before. I have shot two does, but that’s about it. I think one of the reasons why I haven't shot a buck is because I haven’t been going out hunting much. In the past, I usually would only go out for about 5 days, and that’s why I don’t see much. This year I have gone out hunting a lot more and I have seen a lot more deer. Most of my family and friends that I hunt with have shot a buck. They say it is fun to finally shoot a big deer, and they remember it their whole life. I think It would be a fun experience and it would make me a better hunter. Every hunter's goal is to shoot a huge buck and it is one of mine too. My first buck probably won’t be very big, but over the years I hope I will be able to shoot bigger bucks. My goal is to shoot a buck that is at least ten points or more.

The reasons why I want to shoot a buck is because I will remember it my whole life, I put a lot of effort into hunting, and I have never shot a buck before. That is why one of my life goals is to shoot a big buck. I will continue to hunt every year and prepare for the moment of a big buck walking down the trail towards my stand.
