A Minor Inconvenience

I’m finally done with the school day. As I start to drive out of the school lot listening to some “Scatterbrain.” With the major stressor of the day over with, I finally get to unwind in my car and look forward to relaxing in my room. Until one small, little annoyance enters my view, a tailgater.

I quickly check my speedometer to see that I’m going five over as I feel my blood start to broil. How are you going to tailgate me when I am going over the speed limit?? I try to resist the urge to air my grievances in the serene, relaxing car.

The small distance between the two cars may not seem like such a big difference to some individuals, however, those couple of yards can be a complete gamechanger. Those yards represent the lack of common courtesy the other driver has. Those yards represent the clear indication to SPEED UP! When I’m already going too fast. Those yards represent the other individual saving ten seconds which they probably won’t even utilize.

Now I face a crucial dilemma, whether to be the bigger man in the situation or to stoop down the tailgater's level and drive considerably slower. Depending on the situation I either choose the former or the latter. Whether or not to show the other individual the courtesy they did not provide me, or reciprocate their feelings and have their tailgating be completely counterproductive.

In the end, the other driver may not be purposefully tailgating and have formed a bad habit. Or they may be late for a crucial business meeting where the job hangs in the balance. They may even be tailgating in a vain attempt to get me to speed up. The best thing to do is to take a deep breath, ignore the driver with unknown intentions behind you, and listen to JID crush his feature in “Scatterbrain”
