During small talk, one of the first questions typically asked is, “What is your favorite color?”. Not everyone has an answer to this—I definitely don't. 

Over the years, I have observed a few main archetypes of people when they answer this question. There are those who have seemingly liked this color from birth. They can confidently answer with a color they are assured of. Next, there are those who have multiple favorite colors, always unable to pick one when asked this simple question. Finally there are those like me, unsure of their favorite color. Perhaps I just don’t have one? 

Personally, I view every color as equal. No single or integrated mix of colors appeals to me to the point where I could confidently choose those as my favorite color/s. Through taking art classes, I learned more about colors and shades. I had learned that colors can be divided into categories. One category was based on if the color was warm or cool tone. With this knowledge, I thought, maybe this can help me decide a favorite color? 

To me, picking a favorite color is based on more than just if I think it's a good color. Something that is important to me while picking a favorite color is if it looks good on me, if it matches my undertones. I need to look good in my favorite color and feel confident about myself and the color. Honestly, I prefer shades over colors. Black and white compliment anyone no matter their undertones. 

Perhaps I will never have a favorite color/s and that's okay. 

Black and white are more versatile, I wear them with everything. The majority of my closet contains black and white clothing. 

I still won’t have an answer to what my favorite color is but at least I know that I favor shades over colors.
