“Ugh,” the only class with space is a social studies class this semester. This is going to suck. I bet all we will talk about is George Washington and Alexander the Great.​​ That is what I thought going into Mr. Skaros’s class on the first day of the semester. Well, I was wrong.

The first thing I remember was Mr. Skaros taking a whole class to introduce himself and saying what we would cover over the semester but most of the time it was about his kids and baseball. I left that class saying this would be a much better social studies class.

During the class, we would talk about all kinds of events happening in the world and every day we would probably waste ten minutes talking about some rapper who was arrested or some other random topic. For some reason, this made it easy to learn the information and I learned more in his class than in any other class. 

Mr. Skaros is also the JV baseball coach and when baseball season started he would play DJ Khaled’s All I Do Is Win song almost every day, since his team won the night before. He also has kids and a wife that he would talk about here and this gave us a window into his personal life that made him feel more like a friend than a teacher. 

His class was the most fun I have ever had in a class. I don’t think there was a single day where I would not laugh at least twice. I went from “Ugh social studies class” to “Every class after social studies sucks.” My favorite part was the first part of class when we would look up current events that are going on in the world. Sometimes it consisted of serious topics, and other times it was about the new Disney movie. 

I think anyone will enjoy his American problems class and he is one of the best at keeping the class interesting but still teaching the material that needs to be taught. If I could go back I would have taken his class all four years of high school.
