Nothing Is As Clear As Lake Superior
The woman my mother calls “mom” lives near the banks of Lake Superior. Although, my mother would always say that she uses the term “mom” loosely; the woman is a shipwreck. An unfortunate occurrence that leaves regret to linger in her deep set wrinkles and escape her rusting mind. The more she forgets, the more she disappears. My grandmother is eroding away.
Did you know that you could see shipwrecks from the surface of Lake Superior? Sometimes when I go to visit I think of how my grandmother is one of those shipwrecks, a tragic exhibit for our family members to pity and how unfair that is. I look into the crystal shore of Lake Superior and think: Nothing in life is clear, nothing but this lake. Nothing is as clear as Lake Superior.
