To Be a Kid Again

For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be an actress on Broadway. The bright lights. Center stage. Standing ovations. I crave it all. While some kids grew up listening to Kids Bop and watching Spy Kids, I grew up listening to Rent and watching Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. My childhood was full of going to ballets and Broadway shows. We had season tickets to both and there would be a show about every month. I would gaze up at the beautiful dancers and dream I was one of them.
Somehow, those dreams have disappeared. As I’ve grown up, I’ve realized how hard it is to be a dreamer. My days are packed full with school projects, homework and speeches. After school I go straight to work and be the manager of a team of at least three. As soon as I come home and drift off to sleep, I dream that I am taking tests and working all over again. I feel like my imagination is floating away from me and I’m in adult world now.
As graduation rapidly approaches, I reflect on my childhood and the life I had lived with the bright lights and center stage. Now, a soon to be marketing major, I hope that I can dream the dreams I once craved and dance my way through the rest of my life.
