THUMP
“The city burned, fire lit up the night sky” Brianna was in the middle of her story.
“Shush, do you hear that? “
“I didn’t hear anything” Brianna said with an attitude
“NO! I heard a thump.” I said whispering with my ear up to my door hoping I would hear it again.
”Okay yaya it’s probably just in your head.” I tried not to listen and walked away. As I was walking I could hear Brianna’s foot steps behind me, I looked back
“shush don’t wake up my mom.”
“THUMP” I gasped and before I looked back to hold onto Brianna’s hand she was already running up the stairs. I ran up the stairs after her, she was already in my room with my covers over her head. I giggled a little, I pulled her arm to come with me
“Come on we have to find out what is that thumping noise.” “THUMP “I jumped on top of her as she went back under the covers. I got back up and began to walk toward the door. We walked down the stairs again tip toeing covering our mouth as we giggled. We got to the bottom of the stairs and “THUMP” there is was again We ran up the stairs screaming. We slammed the door and went under the covers laughing as hard as we could.
My mother walked in yelling “WHY ARE YOU GUYS SCREAMING ?”
We took the covers off of our heads, “Sorry mom we are telling scary stories and the cat jumped up and scared us.”
“Yeah, yeah, what ever don’t let me hear it again.”
“Yes ma’am, “I said with a silly tone, saluting my mother.
She giggled “go to sleep NOW!”
We waited to hear my mother’s door close. Then we got up and walked down the stairs THUMP Brianna was getting ready to run but I grabbed her before she could blink.
“ No, we have to figure out what the noise is.”
“Cant we find out tomorrow?” “No we are going now!” as we walked through the living room the noise got louder. We made our way to the basement; I grabbed the flashlight as I felt Brianna’s hand pulling me. I could tell she was scared, but I did not want to go alone. I opened the door and the noise got louder. We tip toed down the stairs as the thumping noise got louder and faster. THUMP THUMP THUMP. Brianna was shaking hiding her face behind my shoulder peeking out with one eye and the other closed. I shined the flashlight around and the noise got lower . I continued to walk around as the noise got softer; we walked towards the dark part of the basement where the washer and dryer were. Suddenly the noise stopped so I paused and looked around confused as can be. It was quiet.
“I think I scared whatever it was away,” I said
“okay good, let’s go to bed.” Said Brianna nervously. I walked to go make sure the door was locked Brianna followed behind me. BEEEEEPPPP! “AHHHH” we both screamed at the top of our lunges. I covered her mouth and laughed hysterically.
“What are you laughing for?” Brianna said as her hands shook holding my arm tightly. I walked over to the dryer and opened it. “It was my cleats I forgot I was washing them for my big game.”
“What? Are you serious?” Brianna said, laughing in relief.
“Now we can go to sleep.” We walked up the stairs quietly and into my room My mother was standing there She looked mad.
She chuckled and said, “It was your cleats the whole time wasn’t it?” We both laughed and said “yeah .“
