Food pantry
"Brian," Conner said, "come here look what's in this box!"
"Sure, just one minute I have more beans to put away," I replied. I had no idea how many beans there was until I put them away. There was enough beans packed away in two cabinets to make you feel nostalgic about for weeks.
"Brian! It will take a second, just look in the box okay?" Connor urged.
When I finally got over to wear my friend was and looked in the box.
"In a food pantry," Connor started while reaching in the box," I never would have thought to see bars of soap." What he pulled out was three Dove soap bars.
"Really? Look at this," I said, reaching into another box.
"Conner, how often have you seen canned squid?"
"Never," he laughed quickly "and odds are I never will again."
If you have ever met a hoarder, or have recently been in an attic, garage, or storage unit that hasn't been touched for years, you could find some interesting stuff there. This food pantry is no different. This food pantry could possibly be where you could find Waldo, the Holy Grail, and the fountain of youth at the same time.
"I wonder if and when we will finish with all this canned food," Conner said.
"Not sure, but if we somehow get trapped in here," I replied, "at least for a while we won't have to worry about starving to death."
At this point, one thought that might be going through your head is "why are you in some old, creaky, food pantry that has dead rats and bugs?" If you're only reading this for corny jokes, read the top.
Now, to answer the first question I possibly put in your head, it's easy:community service. I had to put canned food in specific cabinets, depending on what I found. Beans, carrots, peas, tuna, soy milk, dry milk (please don't ask why, I have now idea either), and all sorts of normal things you would find in a food pantry. And as I just said, there were lots of dead animals, if they came back from the dead, I would have flipped out.
I learned some simple things during this job. Always bring a friend or someone to talk to because things get done faster. For example, once I brought two of my friends: John and Conner. They were such a help and six hands are always better than two. Also always read things before you put them away, I've misplaced some cans and have had to take them out and go through the whole thing again. And if nobody could come with you, I suggest bringing music to play for entertainment. It has almost the same effect as bringing somebody, except they aren't there with you.
