A Letter To My Parents (And Others' Parents) MAG
Sometimes I wish I was living in the '60s
There was revolution in all aspects of life.
And music and love and freedom.
Everyone was trying to make their point,
And they stood for a cause or meaning.
Only then going "without"
And wearing gobs of beads and funny bell-bottom pants
And hating war and government
And caring for your long hair or afro
And smoking plants
And loving music poetry and love.
And say "dig-it," "hip," "man," "far out" and "psychedelic"
Was conforming to the younger generation.
And where are these people today?
Trying to control our lives.
These are the people who try to criticize us.
These crazy rebellious adults who lived through Woodstock
And Vietnam
And the Beatles, Zeppelin, Hendrix and the Dead.
At least try to understand how we dress and talk.
And want to drive and have strange friends
And why we change the truth
And how we all aren't the "grunge generation."
And why shoes cost $85 and not $10.
And why my hair is blue and my nose is pierced.
Just cope with it,
Your parents did.
