Once I walked into room 239, for Social Studies, at Christ the Teacher Catholic School, I knew this would be one of my favorite classes. Mrs. Kristen Potts introduced herself, at the time she was Ms. Tegan until she got married. By far she was my favorite teacher. She always thought of fun ways to teach, made us feel like family, and always had the patience for us, despite challenging times.

For me, learning is not very fun. Most of the time I get bored or sidetracked, but when Mrs. Potts taught us, she made me interested. She always put on fun YouTube videos that had catchy verses that helped us remember the content that we were learning. We always did fun Kahoots to help us for every upcoming test, that she took time out of her day to make for us. We also got to play games to help us with what we were learning.

Mrs. Potts was always one of my favorite teachers because she made us feel like family. She always told me and my fellow classmates how much she loved us and what a great class we were. This showed the love and compassion she felt towards teaching and the students she teaches. She made us feel like family. She loved to show us pictures of her newborn baby because she knew we all cared.

I always loved walking into Mrs. Potts’ classroom because it had a great vibe. I always knew that if I needed help with anything she would not mind at all to help. She had great patience with the class which is greatly needed when being a teacher. It was not always easy when not everyone understood the concept, but with the patience she had, she made it work.

It takes more than just knowledge to be a good teacher. A good teacher needs to connect and interact with each and every student in their own type of way.  I knew that Mrs. Potts did this. For these reasons and more, she’s a great choice for Educator of the Year.
