For this year’s Educator if the Year essay contest I chose my former 8th grade social studies teacher Mr. L (Lingenfelter) back in Skyline Middle school. I chose him because his style of teaching is amazing. He doesn't assign a lot of homework, but he makes sure we understand the material. Most of my social studies classes were very boring, but in 8th grade he made it my favorite class and looking forward to D Period. He always said we were second in his top classes at Skyline which I felt is an accomplishment because he has been teaching for a while. What I think is very cool is that he used to be close to some of my family members, my Uncle Rob and Aunt Brenda. I think that made him a little closer to me, but he obviously didn't show bias.

Mr. L is my favorite teacher for many reasons. His teaching style is somewhat different than other teachers. He enjoys us listening to the lecture and before we start the classwork, we understand it clearly. He doesn't assign us that much homework, but when he does it, is worth more points than most others. Mr. L is a incredible teacher and has impacted others in his classroom as they got older. He has been a very important role model to me, and he is one of the reasons why I am still interested in school and staying in it to excel later in life.

Mr. L is, very a cool, laid back guy, but if you get on his nerves, he will get mad.... There was only one time I saw him like that and there was a cold shiver that went down my back because I never saw him like that before. He is very opinionated. If I think of something that his different than his outcome, then he will try his best to prove to me that he's right and that is how it mostly goes. Mr. L was one of the funnier teachers at Skyline too; he was like one of a kind teacher. He even cusses sometimes. He is very close to students; that he makes us feel comfortable.

Mr. L is very good with preparing lessons. All of my other social studies classes they weren’t my best or my favorite but with his I had A's throughout the year, and I look forward to that class throughout the day. My favorite lesson in his class was probably the John F Kennedy assassination. This was my favorite because it was like you never knew what was going to happen. He always motivated his kids and even adults in his college classes with a picture and a motto of “climb to the mountain top”. It hit everyone; we all started our climb.

In conclusion, those are the reasons why I nominated my 8th grade social studies teacher. He is always fair no matter how much he doesn't like you; he will tell you straight up if he doesn't. He continuously motivates people and makes them feel better about themselves. He is honestly one of my top role models I have had so far because of his worth ethic. This is why I nominated Mr. Lingenfelter as Educator of the year.
