What makes her extraordinary is not just what she does, it’s what she loves to do. There are many teachers who don’t care about the success in their students; all they care about is how well they do in their class and what grade they obtain. Unlike those teachers, Mrs. Carnell focuses on how her classes can impact her students’ lives. When students don’t try and don’t care about their grades, Mrs. Carnell does not give up on them; she pushes them until they succeed.

In most classes, I prefer to sit in the back of the room and not put my voice out there, but it is different when Mrs. Carnell is my teacher. Sitting in her classes makes me feel part of something. She wants everyone to be involved, even if it puts them out of their comfort zone.
Although she has numerous ways to help people, there is one particular example that stands out the most to me. One day in class, Mrs. Carnell gave everyone an article on struggle versus learning. She gave everyone two pennies and told us everyday she gives us her two cents worth, and she wants us to give them back to her in return. We all read the article and had to raise our hands one by one to share our thoughts, giving her a cent worth in return. I listened to everyone share what the article meant to them, keeping my hand down. Then the bell rang. I still had my two pennies laying on my desk. My consequence was receiving an F for the day.
Even though I may have hated the class at that time, I learned a great lesson from that activity alone. I learned that everyone has a different opinion on everything, and nobody’s opinions are incorrect. Mrs. Carnell did a great job teaching me this lesson, and now in other classes, I do not hesitate to raise my hand and share what is on my mind.
Mrs. Carnell deserves her two cents worth. She tries and tries to help people succeed, even though they still fail to give back her two cents worth everyday. Despite the fact that she doesn't get the same respect she gives, Mrs. Carnell never gives up on what she loves to do. Personally I have never met a stronger woman, or someone more willing to go through whatever it takes just to help others.
