Educator of the Year nominee Senior chief
Have you ever had a teacher pushing you to do your best? Telling you inspiring stories, forcing you to achieve the greatness you’re supposed to achieve, making you believe in your abilities. Someone to talk to someone that allows you to accept failure, but help you to get back up and win! Senior Chief McClain has all of these characteristics.
Not many students get to experience PT fridays. Each Friday in Naval Science we have physical training. From playing dodgeball vs. seniors, to running a timed mile, PT can be intense and hard. With Senior Chief as our teacher, each cadet feels encouraged to take on each physical challenge with 100% effort and belief that they will get the job done! He supports us in many ways by cheering us one; he even runs with us.
Promotion testing is another very tricky part about Naval science. Although some cadets do not pass the test the first time, after a talk with Senior Chief, they never feel discouraged. Senior Chief always puts in extra effort to make sure the student doesn’t have to worry about failing again and feels more confident. Senior Chief offers extra notes to help you pass or even offers to stay after school. He even puts aside class time for students to help each other.
As a Naval Science Instructor, it’s part of your job to inform the cadets about the Navy. Senior Chief goes above and beyond when it comes to this. He tells us of the experiences he has been through the Navy, and he inspires the whole class. Senior Chief always has a sense of humor and make jokes which help make the class fun.
Senior Chief’s class is a class that I and a lot of other students always look forward to. He inspires each and every one of his students to take pride in what we look like and do. Senior Chief’s stories, dedication to his job, and each student will forever stuck with me. As a freshman in high school, it’s not first year taking Naval Science; I’m glad to say Senior Chief was my first Naval Science Instructor. This is why I would like to nominate Senior Chief for Educator of the Year.
