The New Passion
My new workplace, The place I spend half my weekend time, either way, Icombat. A laser tag place in Waukesha where I have developed an addiction you could say. Some people say I have an addiction, But the way I look at it I just have a passion for laser tag. I know that might sound weird but it is the most active I have been on the weekends ever, and you can’t diss me unless you try it.
My passion started when three of my friends asked me if I wanted to tag along not knowing what I was getting myself into, thinking “I will just go and play some laser tag like a kid with the smoke machines and disco lights.” Playing the first game not having any clue what is going on at all, just walking around aimlessly and getting shot every ten seconds. James, our team leader at that time, came over and showed me how I should be playing, unlike my friends that just left me to die. Halfway through start having fun. I am actually shooting some people and objectives. Then we get to Hell’s bells where James showed us how to shoot up into the bell gaining our team points. The game starts and all you can hear is ding… ding ding ding ding. As we shoot the bell.
Now flash forward to now where I am getting top 3 constantly in the sessions. Against other regulars that have been there for way longer than I have. Knowing the full map and the backstory. The map is based on Bang dead and there are three major parts to the map: the mansion, the market, which has two levels, and the tower which also has two levels. With an older type look to the map, and a car and truck in the street. Now I have developed a love for Icombat and have a true passion for it. I even did the tournament which was the most fun I have had in months. Getting to hang out with these amazing people of all ages that all have the same passion and love I do for the sport.
Now I am working there, which is even more fun. I get to help people try and win the games and get better as James did for me in my very first session. I have already had multiple people come up and say to me that they are going to come back next week too, which I love. I love that my passion for the sport is starting to drive other people to gain some passion for it too. I also love seeing them progress as a player. Working and playing I have an obsession with Icombat, and I am not afraid to admit it.
