Minuet in G with My Little Refugee
"Minuet in G". My little refugee student's hands, flickering from one piano key to another, had trembled when she came into this foreign country. They most likely fidgeted when her Grandma spoke of the girl's daddy back in Cuba. But now, I had the pleasure of seeing those hands dance with deliberation on my portable keyboard. I felt my soul swell at seeing my piano student succeed with that particular song, because I so wanted her to know the companionship of music in her hardest times; I wanted to help her gain momentum in life by teaching her piano, which transcends the language barrier. At that moment, I knew the reason I had started my free piano service, "Tiana's Pianas"; it was for those delicate hands, that they would have the opportunity to express the music of my little refugee's hurts and joys in a language both of us could understand.
